“It wouldn’t have happened without you guys’ support, and I really appreciate that.”

Another week, another career launched! This time it’s Vinita Samant who has found a role as a Test Analyst after joining Industry Connect.

We gave Vinita a call to ask about her time with us and if she had any suggestions for those following in her footsteps.

Congratulations on your new role as a test analyst Vinita! Tell us, what was your background before joining Industry Connect?

I moved to New Zealand in 2014, and for two or three years I was just doing part-time jobs because I was up in the north part of the island and there’s not much IT work up there! After my maternatiy leave, I joined a post-graduate diploma at the Unitec in 2019, and then passed out in 2020.

In between that time I joined Industry Connect, in the middle of my course. I had some friends who had already passed through you guys and they said it was a really good platform to start up. They told me to join and I would learn a lot more, so I signed up. Half way through I took a break because I wanted to finish my post-graduate diploma, so with that, the studying, my baby and then the pandemic, I had to stop for a while.

Once I finished my post-grad in 2020 I joined the internship.

Which part did you like the most during your internship?

My favourite thing was learning new things, because automation was new to me. And before then I didn’t have any work experience in IT, in software testing, but here I learned so many things. The main thing I learned was the new tools and technologies, which was great.

On the basis of this, I think I got the job, because I didn’t have anything else to show them! Yeah, it wouldn’t have happened without you guys’ support, and I really appreciate that.

What would you suggest to others?

Don’t lose belief in yourself, you can do it. It can take time and your experience before you came to Industry Connect. IT will be a new challenge for you, but if you work hard and if you get the time, then you definitely can make it.

I also took a long time for me because I took a break, so I was scared of the programming thing, and it took me so long to catch up, but I did it and now I’m proud of myself. But it was hard. Back in December or January, I just lost it. I felt like I was overwhelmed, like I couldn’t do it and it was better if I went and did something else, something with less stress…

But after I motivated myself to think positively and I made it in the end, so that’s a good thing!

It certainly is Vinita, thank you for talking to us and good luck in your new role as a test analyst!
