“I learned a lot of new technologies as well as the latest trends in the New Zealand market.”

We’re used to our success stories here at Industry Connect, but the speed that Malini found a job as a software developer surprised even us!

Before she started her new career, we caught up with her to ask about her time with us and if she had any advice for those thinking of joining.

First of all Malini, congratulations on your new job as a software developer! What was your background before you joined Industry Connect?

Actually I have a Masters in Computer Application and I was working as a software developer back in India. Before that I was working for a financial company. By the year 2000 I had 11 years experience as a developer, particularly in Java, and I was working as a backend developer.

I relocated to New Zealand in January of 2018 with my husband, and then we had a daughter, so I took a break to take care of her.

After that I started applying for jobs, but no one was responding because of the break. Here Stack Developer and C# is the most used software, so I knew I needed to learn more about that. I learned about Industry Connect and MVP Studio when I was browsing to learn more about becoming a Stack Developer so I just applied for the internship to get training.

What was your favourite part of the internship?

The training provided by Industry Connect was really excellent, especially the .NET code and the React Query. It was really interesting, especially when I came to MVP Studio and the onboarding task – it was like working as a full-time developer, working from the front end to the back end.

I learned a lot of new technology, especially the trainings videos. I used to record the video training of the Tech Talks and there I learned a lot of new technologies as well as the latest trends in the New Zealand market.

What would you suggest to others?

I think instead of only attending trainings, I would say get hands-on. I took a break, so I was not good at hands-on, so I was not good at it. If you’re doing the onboarding task or other tasks, you’ll surely get the hands-on experience in software development.

Well thank you Malini, and good luck in your new job as a software developer!
