Sukhpreet is now the latest in a long line of Industry Connect graduates who have walked into a job in IT.
Now working as an intermediate software developer, Sukhpreet sat down with us for a chat to tell us about her experiences with Industry Connect, and how we helped her secure her new job.
First off, congratulations Sukhpreet! Can you tell me a little bit about your background what were you doing before you joined us here at Industry Connect?
I’m from India and because I had some previous experience in India when I arrived here I started looking for jobs in my profession. Unfortunately any reply I got from a company asked me for some commercial experience in New Zealand, so it was very hard for me to grab a job. Finally I watched some videos on Facebook of Industry Connect, and all those really influenced me a lot, and then I decided to join Industry Connect.
When I come here initially, I just ran through all of the six-week classes and they helped me a lot with the basics of all the technologies that are very much in the market at the moment. So it really helped me a lot, and after finishing my classes, I went for my internship at MVP studio, which was a really good environment, not only for my technical skills, but also for my soft skills. I got an idea how to settle myself in the office – for me it is different, I’m a girl from India, so that helped me a lot.
I also got some simulation interviews too, like one day prior to my reall interview, so and that was a big help.
Yeah, I remember that. You found a position after about a month of the internship? Yes so that’s quite an impressive achievement! Is there any advice that you’d like to give to anyone else who is in that position you were in?
Yeah so I would like to say like if you are really willing to join any company in your profession like software or any other position in IT, Industry Connect is the best place to join. You will get good commercial experience here in New Zealand so it’s the best place.
