Before she started her new career, we gave her a call to ask about her time with us and what she thought is Industry Connect.
Congratulations on your new job as a BI developer! Tell us, what did you think of the Industry Connect initiative?
The whole programme – Industry Connect and MVP Studio – was really well organised. I joined you about 2 years ago, and in that time I moved different houses, different cities… I moved to Gisbourne and back again, I started my studies… but every time that I wanted to come back to MVP Studio, it was there. All the videos were there and organised, it was very good.
I have a really strong family and they support me. Every time I got points I would screenshot them and send them to my husband! Before Industry Connect, after I received my reference letter, I didn’t get support from people who should have helped me to find a job, like a recruiter. It was really hard for me. They basically said to “sell yourself”, but that was really hard for me, but MVP Studio was really good and helped me a lot. I’ve already recommended you to several of my friends at University. I tell them about how much you helped me. Thank you so much, I’m really happy I found you two years ago.
What made you become who you are today?
You could say Industry Connect and MVO Studio “built” me from scratch. Yes, I had a good education and experience in my own home country, but I was starting from scratch here in New Zealand. I didn’t have any understanding about how to communicate with others or what the industry was like here in New Zealand.
I just learned something here in SQL I never did in my bachelor degree many years ago, so yes, I could say that Industry Connect built me up zero to one hundred. In my home country, I was a data analyst for many years, but it was totally different. What you’re doing here is really good.
What would you suggest to others?
Just be patient and follow Industry Connect!
Patience is really important I think, because there are lots of opportunities, every time you receive a message in LinkedIn or Instagram, you can start a different job. There are different jobs out there, just stay and focus on your journey.
