“Getting local experience here is the one thing I would suggest to candidates looking for jobs.”

Shane was in the final few months of his degree, about to finish University without a job to go to after graduation.

It was then he found us, and all the promises of Industry Connect finding you a job seemed too good to be true.

I came across Industry Connect and I was skeptical at first, wondering if they could really help me find success,” Shane told us. “But then I did some research and went ahead with it.”

And it was the best decision he ever made because Shane is now a BI Consultant for EY, one of the “big 4” accounting firms!

How we helped Shane land his first job as a BI Consultant

“It’s true I gained some technical experience here, but Industry Connect taught me so much more than that.

“With the help of my mentors here, I gained some soft skills and interview tips as well, and my CV was also letting me down.

“Again, with their help, I redesigned my CV and started applying again, only this time I got through!”

Does Shane have any recommendations for people looking for a job?

“Only a month ago I was looking for a job.

I was applying for different kinds of jobs, for all different companies.

Because I was just out of University, when I applied for a job I kept getting rejected, so if I have any advice for recent graduates, I would say the most important thing to be successful in the New Zealand job market, is to get local experience.

Local experience is something which is difficult to get here, and Industry Connect made it easy for me.

New Zealand is a really small market compared to other countries, but then it does have

the big companies operating here, so when you get an offer as a BI Consultant in a company like EY, it’s obviously a great feeling.

And it’s all thanks to Industry Connect.

Getting local experience is the most important thing. I would suggest that any candidates who are looking for jobs to come here first.”
